They really didn't say anything, just sort of nodded their heads. I heard one sis. say to another one time "better you than me" . That's the type of attitude that stems from the "woe to the pregnant woman and the one suckling a baby" during the great tribulation that was right around the d@#n corner all the time; and the 'do more, do more, do more' mentality.
When I had my first daughter the 'friends' didn't even throw me a baby shower or give me hand-me-downs! They knew our family was struggling and yet sat idly by, some even laughing at our situation. Fortunately my 'worldly' family all went in and bought a bunch of clothes for her.
Worldly people are much more loving, compassionate and sincere than those in so-called spiritual paradise.

They pay lip service to love. Being that we were dirt poor most of the time I was in the lie we were left out a lot of the times. We did receive a few invitations over the years, I can count them on my hands with fingers to spare. For some reason I expected real friendships to develop after these 'gatherings' but only two sisters really took an interest and became real friends to me personally. The rest were either cliqued up or lonely loners. One friend faded by the time I left and the other just left me completely alone when I began to fade. To this day, if she sees my children who were never baptised she treats them like they're dfd too.
Then there were the jokes and laughter at our poverty striken state. Imagine how humiliating it is to drive up to the KH in a 79 rusty, loud, LTD and see the 'friends' snickering at your ride. How arrogant and stupid. Real love has manners and respects the dignity of others.

not really much point to this except i want to vent some anger but yesterday my little brother came round to my house for lunch, he is studying and living at the house of my jw sister, i myself have never been baptized so am not disfellowshipped but they all (with the exception of my little brother) treat me as though i where.. anyway, my little brother came round for lunch and the next thing my jw mum phones my house, asks to speak to my brother and gives him a telling off for being at my house because i'm bad association, and tells him that he has to spend more time with the members of the congregation.. he tries to explain to her that the members of the congregation don't want to know him, that he is sick of making an effort to be friendly with them when they just ignore him.. anyway, it finished with her telling him he is to go straight back to my sisters house and not see me again.. he is 24 years of age, surely its up to him if he wants to come to my house!.
sorry, i know there is no point to this, but i just wanted to let off some steam!
Hi Ellie! I'm so sorry you had to go through this. I really think you should take the opportunity to write your mom a long letter about how important 'family' is to you and the community. Leave the JW stuff out and give her something to think about. Just a thought.

a week back,gary buss started a post on the gb's claim to assembly halls and kh's in the new org.
book.i find this interesting because the kh in the city i reside in has been up for sale for the past year.
While the new Kingdom Hall plans are still fairly nice - the assembly hall plans actually look like big produce warehouses - you know, made out of that corrugated aluminum with a nice lobby is all - so that maintenance will be much easier and add-ons and mods will be modular in nature.I expect you will see this slowly trickle across the country if it hasn't started already.
